The Importance of Investor Days for Publicly Held Companies

Equipe Comunicação Externa & Pesquisa

Transparency, good communication and investor engagement are fundamental pillars for publicly traded companies to consolidate not only their brand, but also the market’s trust in the company. One of the initiatives taken by some companies to reinforce these pillars is to host an Investor Day, providing a structured communication channel between the company, its investors and other stakeholders.

Amidst a more challenging scenario, such as publicly listed companies are facing in 2025, this type of event becomes increasingly more relevant, as it allows them to precisely and objectively present their strategies, financial performance and future prospects. According to the “Investor Days in 2024” study, recently published by MZ, 69 Brazilian companies, with a total market value of more than R$1.7 trillion at the end of the year, hosted Investor Days events in 2024, representing 20.2% of the total number of Brazilian companies assisted by MZ, meaning that, although this event is an essential engagement initiative with investors, it is not adopted by most companies.

At 2025 IR Summit, hosted at the end of January by MZ, Investor Relations experts – including representatives from Gerdau (B3: GGBR4), Tegma (B3: TGMA3) and Blau Farmacêutica (B3: BLAU3) – discussed how events such as Investor Days can strengthen transparency and investor engagement. Exchanging experiences proved that this event goes beyond simply presenting results. It creates a unique opportunity to strengthen the company’s image and influence investment decisions.

One example of how companies can benefit from hosting Investor Days was given by Tegma’s IR Manager, Ian Nunes, at the 2025 IR Summit. He stated that Tegma avoided holding this type of event because, given it is a small cap company, he believed not much advantage would be taken from it. In the end, the event managed to not only increase analyst coverage but also considerably increased the company’s average daily trading volume.   To learn more, click here for a detailed article we prepared about this event.

Considering the importance of hosting an Investor Day, MZ, who is constantly seeking to empower IR professionals by offering cutting-edge technology, exceptional customer service, and disseminating relevant content, brings more information about why this event is so important for companies.

Investor Day as a Relationship and Transparency Tool

By hosting an Investor Day, companies provide a strategic opportunity to share their insights for future plans and ongoing initiatives. Unlike quarterly earnings calls, the Investor Day event allows companies to dive into deeper discussions about strategy, growth and innovation.

Data from the MZ Study reveals that 97.1% of companies that hosted Investor Days in 2024 have shares listed on B3, most of them in the Novo Mercado segment (70.1%), which requires elevated corporate governance standards. This reinforces the trend, in which companies with good governance practices invest the most in this type of event.

At the 2024 IR Summit, industry experts and professionals widely companies debated the importance of Investor Days in strengthening corporate reputation and improving market perception, sharing their insights and discussing case studies on how this event impacts corporate communication strategies. The speakers highlighted that this event has been used by companies in several sectors to consolidate their transparency and boost investor confidence, influencing investment decisions and market valuation.

According to Mariana Dutra, who works at Gerdau, the event is key to strategically expanding investor and stakeholder interactions, as it allowed Gerdau to present its long-term vision, innovative initiatives and commitments to corporate governance. She emphasized that the Investor Day event has become a consolidated platform at Gerdau, in which the company realigns its interests with market expectations, contributing to the predictability of business decisions and investor loyalty.

Ian Nunes, who works at Tegma, shared his experience for his company’s first Investor Day, highlighting how it positively impacted the company’s visibility and the market’s understanding of its growth strategy. He mentioned that, after years of postponing this event, the company realized that a structured investor communication could reduce uncertainties, clarify Tegma’s competitive advantages and drive a reevaluation of its market value. This initiative directly contributed to an increase in its share liquidity and created a more positive perception among analysts.

Positive Impacts on Market Perception

A well-structured Investor Day can influence the growth in share price and the expansion in the company’s shareholder base. The MZ study identified that, in 2024, these events lasted an average of 3 hours and 2 minutes, increasing by 3.4% from the previous year. Furthermore, 80.6% of these events were also recorded and made available as replays, significantly expanding investor reach for those who were unable to attend the live event.

According to Matheus Fujisawa of Blau Farmacêutica, Investor Days may be a determining factor for investors tracking the company, influencing their decision to join the shareholder base. Ian Nunes, from Tegma, reported that, after the event, the company’s shares appreciated 30%, highlighting the positive impact on market perception.

Interactivity has also become a differentiator in these events. In 2024, 73.1% of Investor Days had a Q&A session, fostering a more direct dialogue between the company’s management and investors. The MZ Study also indicated that 60.4% of the questions were asked directly by participants, increasing engagement and enabling companies to clarify specific questions.

Challenges in Organizing and Executing the Investor Day Event

Despite its many benefits, organizing an Investor Day requires detailed planning, strategic alignment and engagement from the company’s management and other areas. During the 2025 IR Summit, speakers highlighted that active participation from senior management is key for ensuring credibility and to impact communications with investors. Speakers also reinforced that preparation involves everything from choosing the right location to defining a precise and objective narrative, filtering the most relevant information for the target audience.

The MZ Study also showed that 62.7% of events, in 2024, were held using a hybrid format, expanding reach and engaging more people by combining in-person interaction with online broadcasting. The analysis also indicated that the month of December had the highest number of events, corresponding to 28.4% of the events held in the year. Another critical element for hosting a successful Investor Day is having the right content structure: on average, presentations lasted 2 hours and 19 minutes, followed by a 47-minute Q&A session, allowing the company to dive deeper into strategic topics. The topics mostly discussed during the events were corporate strategy (57.1%) and competitive environment (46.9%), demonstrating investors’ focus on the companies’ long-term vision.

Conclusion

The Investor Day event has been consolidating itself as an indispensable strategy for publicly traded companies aiming to enhance their investor and stakeholder relationships. The event offers a unique opportunity to strengthen transparency, improve market perception and increase a company’s visibility, positively impacting its shareholder base and share prices.

Although it is challenging to organize an Investor Day, its benefits outweigh the efforts, becoming a strategic investment for companies seeking to consolidate their market reputation, in addition to increasing their analyst coverage and, consequently, their share liquidity. Companies adopting this practice demonstrate a greater commitment to transparency and corporate governance, which are key factors in attracting long-term investors and ensuring sustainable appreciation in the capital markets.
